We are a registered non-profit organization fiercely dedicated to the art of collaborative storytelling, the power of community building, and the unparalleled magic of tabletop roleplaying. More than just a group of players, we are a collective of storytellers, artists, and adventurers working together to elevate Dungeons & Dragons across the country.

Our Story: From a Single Table to a Movement
DMGZA was forged in 2023 out of a simple, unifying necessity: a group of friends who just wanted to roll dice and play D&D together. We started with a handful of character sheets, a few sets of dice, and a deep desire to build something lasting. What began as a single table quickly evolved into a thriving, dynamic community. One adventure sparked another, our tables multiplied to meet the demand, and our local passion transformed into a nationwide movement.
Today, we proudly host one of South Africa's largest communities of recurring Dungeons & Dragons games. Rather than being an authority, we aspire to be the heart and gathering place of the South African D&D community—a guild that brings together players, Dungeon Masters, artists, writers, prop makers, game stores, venues, and passionate fans from every corner of the country.
We believe the hobby grows strongest when people share their talents, support one another, and build something greater together. Inspired by the legacy of Gary Gygax and the collaborative spirit that has always defined tabletop roleplaying, our goal is to help every adventurer find a table, every Dungeon Master find a community, and every creator find a place to belong.

Reclaiming the Table: The Power of In-Person Play
The pandemic era took a heavy toll on personal connection, forcing our lives, our friendships, and our games behind digital screens. Digital fatigue set in, and the true essence of the game was lost in translation. DMGZA was founded to break that isolation and bring the soul of Dungeons & Dragons back to the physical table.
We believe there is absolutely no substitute for the energy of gathering in person. We are dedicated to the irreplaceable sensory experiences of the game: the tension of rolling physical dice, the collective gasp when a critical hit lands, the tactile feel of moving a miniature across a physical map, and the shared thrill of facing down a dragon face-to-face.

We collaborate closely with fantastic local venues and restaurants like Dice & Dine to host our recurring games and specialty events in welcoming, atmospheric spaces. We also join forces with fellow community organizers and groups like Magicon to coordinate large-scale themed experiences, including our unforgettable wizarding adventures. By actively supporting local creators and partnering with passionate businesses, we help the tabletop community thrive both at and away from the table.

To grow the hobby, we must empower the people who lead it. We actively expand the Dungeons & Dragons community by providing practical, hands-on Dungeon Master training. Through our Dungeon Master Foundations Bootcamps and mentoring programme, we equip new DMs with the confidence, skills, and resources needed to create memorable adventures.
